Introduction OTB Payments Dates

People living in Ontario can get financial help as Ontario Tax Credits via a special project named Ontario Trillium Benefits. OTB is non-taxable project by the Government of Ontario. Canada Revenue Agency regulates the OTB Payments. Therefore, these payments use naming convention of Canada Pro Deposit. OTB Payments Dates are usually the 10th of each month except for national holidays and weekends.

OTB Payments Dates for 2024

Monthly or Lump Sum

After getting informed about OTB Payments Dates (when you will receive payments), you may choose to receive this payment via cheque or direct deposit to bank. In case of via cheque OTB Payments Dates may vary depending on business days required to reach your address. Candidate can receive monthly payment if his/her total annual OTB payment is less than $360. You have the option to receive a single lump sum payment in June 2025 if your OTB entitlement totals more than $360.

Working of OTB Payment

Ontario Trillium Benefits consists of three credits. After getting eligible for any of these, candidates can receive OTB payments. To get eligible for OTB, candidates must file income tax return and benefit return, candidates must submit an ON-BEN application form and meet the following eligibility criteria. These requirements must be fulfilled each year.

Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit

OEPTC is non-taxable benefit by the Government of Ontario. To get this benefit, first you get to qualify and meet the following qualifying criteria:

  • You must be Ontario resident.
  • Your age must be 18 years.
  • You must be a parent who previously lived with child or is still living.
  • Previously married or at present.

Additional Requirements

Furthermore, some additional requirements demand any one of following conditions to be fulfilled in year 2023:

  • Your property taxes were paid by you on your main residence.
  • Property taxes were paid by your landlord when you rented.
  • Living on a reserve, you covered your household energy expenses.
  • You lived in a public long-term care facility and covered your own living expenses.

Northern Ontario Energy Credit

Qualifying for Northern Ontario Energy Credit requires meeting the above-mentioned eligibility criteria and additional requirements and must live in one of the following places:

  • Algoma
  • Cochrane
  • Kenora
  • Manitoulin
  • Sudbury
  • Thunder Bay
  • Timiskaming
  • Nipissing
  • Parry Sound
  • Rainy River

Ontario Sales Tax Credit

Eligibility criteria for Ontario Sales Tax Credit is same as of Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit except additional requirements.

NOEC Payment Amount

Maximum amount for NOEC payment is $180 in case candidate is single. For families the maximum amount is $277.

OEPTC Payment Amount

OEPTC maximum payment amounts are based on age and residence:

  • If the candidate is between age 18 and 64, he/she will get $1248.
  • For the candidates of age 65 or above, the maximum amount is $1421.
  • Candidates living in public care home will get $277.
  • $25 for the time candidate lived in a college, university or private school residence
